Transparency Notice and Candidate FAQs – Mastercard Foundation Careers Platform
Part A – Artificial Intelligence Transparency Notice
The Mastercard Foundation (the "Foundation", "we", "us") uses a recruitment platform provided by Phenom
People, Inc. ("Phenom") to manage job postings, applications and candidate communications. Some features of
the platform use artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning and generative AI. This notice explains
where AI is used, what it does and does not do, and the choices and rights you have.
Where AI is used in our recruitment process:
People make the decisions. Every application is reviewed by trained members of our recruitment team. No
decision to shortlist, reject or hire you is made by AI alone. Recruiters are trained to treat AI outputs as advisory
and to check them for accuracy and fairness.
When you are interacting with AI: Whenever you use the chat assistant, you will be told clearly that you are
interacting with an AI system and not a person. Any content generated by AI and shared with you will be
identified as such.
Safeguards. We have assessed this platform for data protection, set up human oversight, and monitor the system
for accuracy and bias. Phenom does not use your personal data to train its own or third-party AI models.
1. What is the Fit Score?
The Fit Score is an AI feature in the Phenom platform. It compares the skills, experience and job history in your
application with the requirements set out in the job description and gives our recruiters an indication of how
closely they match. It is designed to help recruiters organize and review applications. It does not replace human
judgement at any stage.
2. How is the Fit Score worked out?
The system reads the information in your CV or application and in the job description and uses machine learning
to measure how closely the two align. It focuses on job-related information such as skills, experience and
previous roles. It is not designed to use information such as your name, age, sex, ethnicity, religion, disability or
photograph.
3. Does a low Fit Score mean my application will be rejected?
No. There are no automatic cut-off scores. All applications remain visible to our recruiters, who decide which
candidates to take forward. The Fit Score is one of several factors considered.
4. What personal data is used?
We use the information you provide in your application, such as your CV, contact details, education, work
history, skills, and answers to application questions. If you consent to Interview Intelligence, we also process the
recording, transcript and AI-generated summary of your interview.
5. Where is my data stored and for how long?
Your data is hosted by Phenom in cloud-based server in Canada. We keep recruitment data for 24 months after
the recruitment process closes, unless you agree that we may keep it longer to consider you for future roles.
Records of how the AI system worked (system logs) are kept for at least six months for audit and oversight
purposes.
6. How do you check that the AI is fair?
We review the screening criteria used for each role and carry out periodic bias testing on the outcomes produced
on Foundation data, across relevant characteristics. If testing identifies adverse impact, we review and adjust the
configuration and, where needed, stop using the feature.
7. How will you contact me?
We will contact you by email only.
8. What are my rights?
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have the right to:
• be informed about how AI is used in assessing your application;
• express your point of view and challenge an outcome;
• access, correct or delete your personal data, or object to or restrict its use; and
• withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
Exercising these rights will not affect how your application is considered.
